What Does A Nutritional Therapist Do Anyway?

This is our first post and our first facebook live, heck it’s our first lots of things! I’m so glad you could be here to share it.

Now I can personally say: do what scares you. Stretch yourself. Take the leap. Because that is what being in front of a camera is for me. An inspired life coach said “the treasure lies in what scares you,” meaning do those hard things for the biggest rewards. The first is always the hardest, so even though it makes me cringe….here is my first Facebook Live. You can catch the really rough product in our Facebook group Utah Natural Wellness. It’s a great place to ask questions, share triumphs and struggles, and brag about your latest tasty creation. Check it out here.

Watch the Video below or scroll down to read about our first entry! Exciting times.

Let Me Introduce Myself!

For our maiden voyage, I thought I would introduce myself and a little bit of my story…the path that led me here. Have you been overwhelmed looking for the “one true diet?” Have you gone from expert to expert looking for what would heal a love one or even your own health issues? Then you might relate to my story!

If you skip to about 8.5 minutes, that is where the discussion begins about what I actually do.

What Does A Nutrition Therapist Do, Anyway?

The name says it all. I help you use nutrition to heal, to optimize, to find yourself again.

8:09 Difference between a Dietitian and a Nutrition Therapist

I picked N.T. specifically because a holistic approach resonated with me. A Nutrition Therapist looks at your whole self, lifestyle, environment, emotional and physical traits to create a personal and custom approach to your health. WE CAN BUILD THE BODIES WE WANT ONE BITE AT A TIME!

So what are some specifics I can help you with?

9:30 Meal Planning

Some people like every meal planned with detailed measurements, recipes and shopping lists to take all the guesswork out of what to eat. Others (like me) would rather have recommendations to create recipes off of on their own. Wherever you fall on this spectrum, I can help customize an eating plan for you. The most common question I get after a class or workshop is “Okay, but what do I actually eat now?” A Nutrition Therapist can answer that.

10:20 Kitchen Clean Out

Your kitchen is the HQ of your healing plan! Sometimes it takes an outside eye to help you organize it in a way that will serve you and to help purge it of harmful ingredients that are sabotoging your goals while filling it with nourishing food and tools you can use. A Nutrition Therapist can help with this.

11:00 Grocery Tours/Personal Shopping

Do you get overwhelmed in grocery stores and end up buying the same 5 things or spontaneously grabbing foods that won’t serve you? I can help you navigate the maze to find where you should focus most of your shopping on. We can read labels together to see what grab and go snacks will fuel you and which will hurt you in the long run.

11:34 Support Your Doctor

So many times, people come home from the doctor with a disheartening diagnosis and the suggestion to eat better. I can help you define what that “better” is for the condition you have. We can tailor new eating habits to support your doctors advice and get you on the track for healing.

12:00 Help you Feel Like YOU Again

This is my favorite. What is keeping you from feeling like yourself? Extra weight? Fatigue? Mood Swings? Chronic Pain? Let’s get you feeling better so you can do the things you love again, look in the mirror and smile back and feel in control of your own life. Remember, your food should be serving you: should be building the you that you want to be.

13:08 The Food Mantra

This will be repeated a lot so here we go again:

You are what you eat.

You are what you eat eats.

You are what eats what you eat.

As a Nutrition Therapist, I use all 3 of these concepts to help you rebuild.

13:30 There’s Only One You

Bioindividuality—have you heard of it? It’s the concept that there is only one body like yours and though there are general health principles and even biological laws, you have unique genes, biochemical factors, lifestyle and environmental factors, and microbial landscapes that make you different than anyone else. Any diet you are on has to factor this in.

13:58 Thanks and and Invitation

Thank you sincerely for being here. Please contribute to the conversation. Share your tips. Invite others. more we have join this movement, the stronger our voices will be!

14:30 We’re Working Hard at the Farm!

Bringing you the food and tools to nourish your family are top priority! Shout out to Utah Natural Meat and the owners, Shayn and Kristen Bowler for their commitment to food that heals in harmony. Their regard for animals and environment is reflected in their business practices and results in the highest quality food.

15:50 Embrace Weird

It can be hard to eat “against the grain.” You are the only one at the party or potluck or reunion bringing your own food or missing out on the pizza and chips. Remember that “Normal” doesn’t mean right. I look forward to weird being more widespread and us supporting each other with food rather than sabotaging with cheap food-like substances. Embrace the weird. Even your kids and teens can learn to appreciate and be proud of good food.

16:40 Greens, not Grains

I had to mention this because its driving me nuts…I say “didn’t eat our greens today” but it sounds like grains. Grains we don’t necessarily need everyday and they can be harmful for many people. But, that is a topic for another day!

16:44 High Five

I also had to highlight this….My daughter high-fived the window outside my Live post and thought no one noticed. I did!

17:58 Come to the Store!

Utah Natural Meat at 5600 West and 7400 South West Jordan, UT

Note that the store hours are 10-3 on Saturdays, not 2 like I said on the video. That was False News. :)
